That Moment I Realized my Life is German Episode of Gilmore Girls

If you haven’t seen an episode of Gilmore Girls – you have not lived.  That being said, a few weeks ago we were back in T’s home town for the Heimat Fest.  The word Heimat essentially means “where you hail from.” This festival took place over the annual Zipfelfest (which I also went to last year).  The difference? Brettheim invited the residence of their French sister city: Chatte to come and enjoy some German hospitality.

There was much drinking, eating, music, as well as a parade (where we were quite sure there were more people in the parade than watching it)

It was that moment where being in this town reminded me of Gilmore Girls – if it were written in Germany. But who are the characters? Well, I am not going to shoe horn this particular German town into a fictional New England town.  I can’t imagine anyone in Brettheim being like the infamous Emily Gilmore.

But I do feel like T is the Luke to my Lorelai 😉 Not to brag or anything.

It was the first festival where I actually had a social group outside of T to talk to.  Don’t get me wrong, I adore talking with T. But it was nice to start having friends of my own and not feel dependent on any one person for my social needs.  Even though we don’t live in this town, I was certainly feeling one step closer to fully belonging.  And it was a wonderful feeling.

So I am going to end this post with photos from the festival.  Hopefully, it will make you feel like you were there!

Bis nächste Woche!
